about

Dianne Steele designer

I am a graphic/web designer in Berkshire County, MA. Art, painting, dance, music, theater and graphic design - I love the creative process. I have been in some sort of art all my life studying, performing and creating things.

a little biz history

then... I started by buying a Mac in 1994 and teaching my self the digital arts. It totally took me by surprise how I fell in love with it. Zenn New Media hired me to do web design back in 1995 when it was a brand new company and I worked there off and on until 2008. I learned a great deal while I was there as well as enjoying the group of talent. I use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, HTML, CSS, a little Flash and Javascript, BBedit, cross browser testing and many other tricks of the trade. In between I worked for a year, 2006, at WorkshopLive as the banner ad queen.

now... I am freelance designer working directly for small businesses as well as doing subcontracting work for such companies as Neonet Technologies and Zenn New Media.

web design

Most people who have their own business feel quite passionate and invested emotionally. They have a vision or concept of what they want the world to see about them and I enjoy helping that vision come to be through the art of website design. It is a combination of beauty and funtionality. It has to look good and feel good to navigate through. The art and the layout have to make sense and express the meaning of the business it is representing.

I am committed to creating sites that have compliant code and are user friendly, beautiful and accessible. Using CSS for layout has changed my life - I love it (most of the time). Check out CSS Zen Garden Dave Shea's brilliant creation, where I was introduced to CSS years ago and it's beautiful flexible power.

other art

I have an attic studio which is my little haven in the sky where I paint and draw. After sitting in front of the computer for days there is nothing quite like dipping my hands right into the bucket (or jar) and finger painting.
